I do not want it to end; the kids are so great. I also have such a great teacher to learn from. I love the way the third grade teachers work together as a team. They come up with the same lesson plan and try to stick to the same activities each day. That way when the students go to the fourth grade, they are all on the same level (as far as covering everything) instead of having different students that have not heard of a certain topic. I thought that was a really neat and smart thing to do! It would help everybody in the long run if all the grades would do this. This week we have been practicing TCAPS testing. We made the students stay in their seats and not talk. They thought it was so hard but we had to tell them the consequences if they did talk or get out of their seat; which is they get a zero on the test. They also are working on their multiplication time tests. The school is doing a volleyball tournament right now and my class played against Angela's class on Monday and won. Then we played against Mariah's class today and won as well. So my class got 1st place for the 3rd grade classes. They were really excited about that! I have really bonded with these students and they have helped me in so many ways. I now understand that everyone learns on a different level. Some students need one on one time and some get done fast and want to help others. Which I think is a great idea because I have observed them teaching and they do great!","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"46730244","body":"I think you are absolutely correct. There are students who learn on different levels. At Lake City, every Friday morning they have an assembly. During the assembly, they give out awards to the classes. My class both Fridays' got the "Best Behavior in Specials Award". I was so proud of them. My class has a really hard time staying focused, especially the special needs students. I had several of these students in Mrs. Long's class, so that helped me get a feel of what it would be like as an actual teacher to work with these types of students. During my lesson, though, my students, especially the special needs students, shocked me with how much they knew about homonyms. They really enjoyed the lesson. They exceeded my expectations. I did not think, especially with fifth graders, that they would open up to me as fast as they did. I really enjoyed getting to them individually and as a whole class. I really do miss my students. They tried to act out so I would be able to come back. My teacher had an awesome system for integrating the students who know how to focus and work hard with the students who have difficulties. During the first week, she had the students who did not need any help at all in the back row, then the students who were understood their work and lessons, but still needed some help in the middle row, and the students who needed all the help in the world in the front row. Then, during the beginning of the second week, she separated them. she wrote their names on cards and gave them a letter from A to D and number from 1 to 4. I can not for the life of me remember what they stood for, but she put at least one student who did not have difficulties with the a group of students who did need help to act as a good influence on them. It seemed to start working really well. She even had reading groups assigned to them. During reading groups, she would take a few students at a time and listen to them read and point out what they was doing well on while they read and what they needed help on. This system of hers was working out quite well for them. So, for my experience it was quite exhilarating. I hope yours was as enjoyable as mine.

It keeps them motivated to do great in school! I also like how your teacher set up her students desks. I noticed in my classroom that the kids that understood the subject actually liked helping the students who have trouble focusing or with the subject. I thought they were just going to be talking but they were actually helping each other in steps. I think we learned many beneficial ways of how the students can work together! By sharing each others experiences I think that we will grow as better teachers!","dateCreated":"1321886253","smartDate":"Nov 21, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"skroach42","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/skroach42","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1366070720\/skroach42-lg.jpg"}}],"more":0}]},{"id":"46139986","dateCreated":"1321073169","smartDate":"Nov 11, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"skroach42","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/skroach42","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1366070720\/skroach42-lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/sarahroach.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/46139986"},"dateDigested":1532174470,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"November 11, 2011 Reflection","description":"This past week has flown by. I absolutely love my kids and my teacher! I definitely do not want to next week to be my last! Wednesday I taught the kids more about contractions. Many of them kept calling apostrophes commas so I came up with, an apostrophe starts with an A so it is above the comma with a C. I gave them a matching worksheet and picked some problems out of the book for them to do. Then I let the kids get a magazine and look for contractions in them. The kids liked doing this activity. Before they started I explained to them that not everything that has an apostrophe is a contraction. Once they found five words I had them cut them out and glue them to a piece of paper and write what the contractions stood for. On Thursday I introduced factors of 6 and 7 to them using the cube manipulatives and tiles that Mrs. Gross had in her class. I found a cute book at the library and shared the pages that talked about 6 and 7. A lot of them did really well with using the manipulatives. Monday, Tuesday, and today I just observed the teacher as she taught and helped the students when they needed help. Progress reports went out today so I helped Ms. Paysinger get those together. The kids that had missing assignments got a copy of what they were missing so they had a chance to bring their grade up. Thursday I gave a kid a spelling test and then at the end of the day we played last man standing. It is a really cute game where it is guys versus girls with multiplication cards. Each student starts out with two beans and the first one to say the right answer in a certain amount of time wins that round. If they get beat they give the bean to the teacher. After both of their beans are gone they are out of the game. When there are three students left, they go to a shoot down where all three of the students are up against each other at the same time. The kids really like this activity and it really helps them learn their multiplication.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"45816788","dateCreated":"1320720729","smartDate":"Nov 7, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"skroach42","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/skroach42","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1366070720\/skroach42-lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/sarahroach.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/45816788"},"dateDigested":1532174470,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"November 7, 2011 Reflection","description":"Today was only the first day and I am absolutely in love with my students and my teacher. My teacher is very helpful. She just graduated and became a certified teacher last year so she can help me out a lot. Today I didn't do much in class; I just observed Ms. Paysinger's rules and took notes on some of the lessons she taught. My favorite thing that the students did this morning was "Spelling Fractions." I had never heard of that before. It helps the students learn their spelling words and at the same time they are also working on fractions. An example would be lawn. The fraction for that word would be 1\/4 because it only has one vowel out of four letters. During "special" time I put the student's graded papers in their folders. We spent an hour and a half on the math lesson because the students have a difficult time with multiplication. The lesson was on word problems. I helped many students with their T-CAP problems in their workbook. We went over the different ways to solve 8X4. We could do 8+8+8+8, 8X4, 4X8, 4X4X4X4X4X4X4X4,8X2+8+8, etc. and we get 28 for each way we try to solve the problem. They had a rough time determining if they should use addition, subtraction, or multiplication in word problems. So I had them underline the main parts of the sentences. Once they did that I asked them what they should do (add, subtract, or multiply) and once they figured it out we would move on to solving the problem. There were two parts to some of the questions. The first part would be adding two things a person bought and the second part would be that the buyer gave the cashier more money than how much the items actually costed. This helped the students with real life problems. I changed the word problems to something they understood better just to give them an example then I would relate it back to the actual word problem. I would say I bought a shirt for $15 and a DVD for $10. How much do I owe? Then the students would try their best to answer it. Then I would say that I gave the cashier $60 and I wanted the rest of my money back. How much will I get back? They had a lot of problems when there was an A and a B to a question. They didn't understand that you could use the answer in A to solve B. I also helped the students come up with their own A and B questions. Towards the end of the day our class went to the book fair and I helped the kids pick out some books then I picked some out and spent way too much money on books. I guess its the teacher in me! :)","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]}],"more":false},"comments":[]},"http":{"code":200,"status":"OK"},"redirectUrl":null,"javascript":null,"notices":{"warning":[],"error":[],"info":[],"success":[]}}
